Third seed Janna lost in the round of 8 in 2021 San Francisco City Golf Championship Julie Inkster Flight. She was defeated by 6th seed Ashley Knepshield 2-up.
Janna led Ashley 3-up through the 7th. At the end of the 11th, the match got tied. On the 12th, she was not able to match Ashley’s birdie. From the 13th to the 17th, she was held 1-down.
In the final push on 18th to tie and extend the match, Janna drove her ball on the rough by the right fairway bunker giving her a very difficult slope and lie to fire at the pin for the second shot. Janna’s ball then hooked and was lost in the marsh. She finished the hole with a double bogey.
According to Janna, luck was not on her side and she credits Ashley’s composure throughout the match.
Janna will compete again in 2022 San Francisco City Golf Championship.
